Bolivar Countians and the public in general have long been familiar with Marilyn Kelly who has served as the county’s Circuit Clerk for the past 14 years. However, Kelly will soon leave public service she announced on her Facebook page on December 6.
“I believe it’s time to start the next chapter of my life,” said Kelly in her social media post announcing her retirement that will be effective on December 31, 2021.
“Today, I announced to the Board of Supervisors my plans to retire,” Kelly wrote. “My retirement will vacate the Circuit Clerk seat for an unexpired term for two years; meaning the regular election is November 2023.”
Kelly said serving the people of Bolivar County has been a high honor and a true blessing.
“I’ve endured some challenges over the years and this was the hardest work I’ve ever done in my life,” said Kelly. “I believe that I’ve helped streamline the Circuit Clerk processes as well as facilitate more efficient elections. So, now I am confident in saying that I leave office of the Circuit Clerk in good standing.”
Kelly said her success would have not taken place without her dedicated staff.
“I’m grateful for all of the hard work they have done for me and Bolivar County over the years,” said Kelly. “I thank my husband, family, close friends and all of you who believed in me for standing by me all of these years. With that said, Bolivar County will always have a place in my heart.”
