A hometown business growing with possibilities

John Thomas Aycock loves what he does, especially the agricultural side of electrical work.

“Well pumps are one of my joys,” he said. “And, grain bins. But, I do most any residential-type work that a person might need. In fact, the majority of my work has been residential; at least, until irrigation season starts and I really get involved in well pumps. Then, when harvest season rolls around, grain bins are a big focus for me.”

Aycock owns Aycock Electrical in Cleveland, which he started in January 2022 when he branched out on his own.

“I had worked with Wesley Tindall, an electrician here in Cleveland, for many years, since 10th grade actually,” said Aycock. “Then, I received my associates degree from Mississippi Delta Community College in Electrical Technology and went back to work for Wesley after college. I’ve pretty much been into electrical work all my life; I did attempt once to be a mechanic but I got tired of breaking my hands.”

Aycock’s love for electrical work stems from his fascination for puzzles and situations that require an ability to fill-in-the-blanks.

“When it comes to the well pumps and the grain bins, it’s really a big puzzle that you have to figure out,” he explained. “I like walking up to something that’s not working and sorting out why it’s not working it. I really want to leave something in a better condition than I found it.”

Aycock is a Cleveland native who grew up around education; his dad was an elementary school principal and his mom teaches PE. But, that field was not something he was interested in pursuing as a career. While Aycock is single right now, he is engaged to be married.

“I think we’ve decided on December 2023 for our wedding date,” he said. “So, I’m looking forward to that.”

Aycock added that his business has been doing very well and he’s basically on the road all the time handling service calls.

“My office is on wheels,” he laughed. “I work out of my truck. And my cell phone is my lifeline to my customers. People can call me at 662-719-0615. I usually work alone, but I do have a younger guy who is still in school that I hire when I need an extra pair of hands, but most of my calls I handle myself. I just love what I do and look forward to growing my business.”
