Just the Right Motivation Consulting, LLC (JRM Consulting) and the Greater New Kingdom (GNK) M. B. Church Health and Wellness Ministry of Cleveland partnered with the Shaw Family Medical Clinic of Shaw and the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH) and the Mississippi Community Engagement Alliance–both located in Jackson–to co-host the Greater New Kingdom Health and Wellness Fair in Cleveland held last weekend.
Rev. Randolph Seals, Jr., the pastor of GNK, had always wanted a Health and Wellness Ministry to help his church meet both the spiritual and health and wellness needs of the congregation and fellow community members. To fulfill those needs, Seals formed a 12 member Health and Wellness Ministry that was established in May 2022.
Joyce Roundtree-McCoy, the owner/consultant of JRM Consulting and the chair of the GNK Health and Wellness Ministry said, “The ministry members and I are so grateful to all of the partners for coming out last Saturday to make our first health event for the year a success.” Some 33 church and community members came out to receive free healthcare services from the Shaw Family Medical Clinic such as COVID-19 tests, vaccines, boosters, HIV tests, and blood pressure and blood glucose screenings.
Their partner in the event, IAMH, also gave away $10 Walmart gift cards to those taking the HIV tests. Additionally, MS CEAL gave three people who received a COVID-19 vaccine each a $25 Walmart gift card they won from a drawing held. The participants also received great information and other wonderful incentives from the following participating vendors: Delta Health Alliance–Mississippi RIVER Schools of Leland, Oak Hill Regional Community Development Corporation of DeSoto County, Prevention Access Campaign of Jackson, CaptionCall of Jackson, Delta Facts about the Vax of Bolivar County, and the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) of Jackson.
Roundtree-McCoy also thanked Nehi Bottling Company of Cleveland for their support of the event.
Roundtree-McCoy has had a love for promoting growth in people for a long time, which is why– in June 2020–she said she was led by God to change the name of her business to something more meaningful than just her name.
“I was blessed to keep the same abbreviations/my initials and change it to Just the Right Motivation Consulting, LLC, “said Roundtree-McCoy. “I want to help motivate people to learn, grow, and just take better care of themselves and others through offering them educational workshops, presentations, and health fairs.”
To assist her in doing just that, Roundtree-McCoy has contracted with foundations like the Drs. Aaron and Ollye Shirley Foundation of Jackson to work the Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics-Underserved Populations (RADX-UP) grant.
“This is a grant from the National Institutes of Health that The Shirley Foundation received to make sure people in Humphreys and Holmes Counties got free COVID-19 tests administered to them by a provider because they are not always done for free at some clinics, and many people feel more comfortable with a provider doing it,” she said.
Now that contracted work has ended–as of July 31, until Roundtree-McCoy gets her next contract with an agency to do this type of work–she said she is just as happy working through her own company helping community and faith-based organizations organize these events.
“That’s what God wants us to do,” said Roundtree-McCoy. “He wants us to meet the spiritual and health needs of the community, and I love spreading God’s word and love to everyone I meet. My sister, the late Barbara Jean Long, always said love is an action word–it means to meet and fulfill a need. That’s exactly what love is; it means we are to meet their needs the best way we can, and that’s what JRM Consulting and the GNK Health and Wellness Ministry is doing by organizing these health and other events at GNK and other churches.”
JRM Consulting and the GNK Health and Wellness Ministry are also helping to work on the following two upcoming health events: The Old St. Phillip M. B. Church Health and Wellness Fair to be held on Saturday, September 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Aloe Park by the church which is located at 902 Aloe Avenue. Pastor, Rev. Leroy Carter is inviting people to come to Aloe Park that Thursday and Friday before the health fair on September 17 for revival each day at 5:00 p.m., and then the health fair will be the last part of the revival on Saturday, September 17.
“The same great incentives will be provided at this health fair too because the same partners will be there like the Shaw Family Medical Clinic to provide these free services,” said Roundtree-McCoy. “Also, the church will be providing free food, and J3 Studio Cutz will be there to provide the first 30 haircuts free.”
The Greater New Kingdom Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk is scheduled for Saturday, October 15, in the Amzie Moore Park in Cleveland, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The activities will consist of a medical provider and cancer survivor(s) speaking as well singing, fun walk, and all donations will be given to the St. Jude Hospital.
Roundtree-McCoy said she hoped the community will come out to participate because, “together we can reduce the number of COVID-19 and HIV cases and learn how to take better care of ourselves and others in the Mississippi Delta.”
