Bringing a love for all things “dance” to Bolivar County.
Leslie Shive is owner and dance instructor at Leslie’s Dance Company. Shive has had a love for dance since she was three years old when she began with lessons from Sister Cockersole and continued with Carla Parker School of Dance in Cleveland, where she also taught as well.
Leslie’s Dance Company is located at 617 Gaines Highway in Boyle, Miss. Shive said she is very excited to get going teaching dance.
“We have open house and registration on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and then again on Sunday, August 2, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Classes will actually start the Tuesday after Labor Day, which is September 8. Classes will be offered for dancers entering 3K to 12th grade. Class days/times will be finalized after Open House.”
Shive said she was very fortunate to teach with Carla Parker for several years and to also be involved with the Russian Ballet Company for Junior Auxiliary of Cleveland’s first presentation of “A Child’s Dream: An Adaptation of The Nutcracker.”
“I have also participated in several of the recent performances as well,” she added. “Additionally, I have been a ballroom dance instructor, cheer coach, and modeling coach. While attending Delta State, I was honored to be crowned Most Beautiful, Miss Delta, and Miss Delta State University and enjoyed competing in the Miss Mississippi pageant twice.”
At Leslie’s Dance Company, Shive will be teaching ballet, tap, jazz and ballet on pointe. She is very excited to be bringing all types of dance to the Cleveland area through her Dance Company.
“I’ve been involved with dance for most of my life,” said Shive. “And, I am eager to share my love of dance with my students. I am a lifelong Deltan who graduated from Delta State with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts & Sciences and furthered my education as a registered dental hygienist. Shive added that all CDC guidelines for that date and time will be followed.
“I’m not sure what things will look like in September, so I’m going to wait for the CDC updates and go from there. But we will of course follow all guidelines when that time comes.”
