Experience makes the difference

For four years Beach Construction has been serving Cleveland and surrounding areas providing residential framing and cabinet work, but owner Derrick Beach has been in the business for 26 years.
“I started out working with my father when I was 15,” said Beach. “My brothers and I worked for him framing houses for about three years. Then, he gave the business to us. So, we were in business together for quite a while. But, eventually one of my brothers and I decided to venture out and we subcontracted for Cleveland Lumber for 10 years. But, four years ago I realized that I wanted to do my own thing, so I started Beach Construction.”
Beach said that while he serves the Cleveland area for the most part, he does travel a 50 mile radius if anyone needs residential construction work.
“Construction is the only thing I’ve ever done during my professional life,” said Beach. “I had planned on doing something different when I was very young, but life had other ideas. Things happened and my dad decided that I needed to start learning the business at an early age and that’s where it all started.”
Beach is married and has four daughters. His wife Kristi has her own career, but does work as his secretary in her spare time. He has one employee who has been with him since the beginning and he said they work great together and are definitely in sync. And, while he may have considered another profession growing up, Beach is decidedly glad he does what he does.
“I love what I do,” he said. “I enjoy meeting different people and the fact that after I finish a job I can see the completed work. It’s very satisfying. I started out framing houses with my father and my brothers, but for the past 14 years I’ve been focusing mainly on trim work and cabinetry. I have built houses from the ground up, but I really love what I’m doing now. Business is wonderful and I’m truly blessed to be doing it.”
