Hayden Wilburn takes over business
Martin’s Spraying Service has served the Bolivar County and greater Cleveland area for decades. Bob Walker started the business and Rodney Martin continued it and now Hayden Wilburn is working the spray rig business.
Wilburn took over nearly two months ago and has been busy spraying and fertilizing.
“In this business, it is a six-application services a year. You get two pre-emergence, two post-emergence, and two fertilizers in between the post-emergence,” explained Wilburn. “We take the weeds out of your yard and make it all beautiful and green.”
With his business degree from Ole Miss, Wilburn has enjoyed taking on the turf education from Martin and he’s ready to keep rolling.
“The fun part about this business is that it’s a non-stop learning experience,” said Wilburn. “I have a F-350 flatbed truck, and I have what they call Z-sprays. I have three of them, which you can take, and I usually have two of them on the trailer at once, to try to make it more efficient. It’s a stand-on spray rig and you can take that right through the yards. But if we ever get a non-stop rain, I don’t want to put a rut up somebody’s yard and put these machines in it. I do have a 500-gallon tank on my truck, to mix the chemicals, and I can walk the yard and spray it that way. But I’ve got a couple of different spray tanks.”
Rodney Martin is happy that Wilburn is taking over the business.
“It’s a good business to get into, especially for someone young to take over right now and really get to rolling with it,” said Martin. “It’s a real established business, and it’s been going on for a long time. Hayden’s going to do really well with it. He is very capable and knowledgeable. I’m helping him to make the transition go smoothly.”
