Paul Janoush Honored

Years of dedication to community recognized

On Friday, December 20, Paul Janoush received a huge honor for his years of hard work and dedication in the community.

In front of a good crowd of supporters, friends and family, the Cleveland Police Department’s police station was named the Paul Janoush Law Enforcement Center.Janoush is known for his 38-year stint as an alderman and police chairman in Cleveland.

Cleveland Mayor Billy Nowell said naming the station after Janoush was fitting for the work his done in Cleveland.

“We’re honored that we’re able to do this for Paul,” said Nowell. “There’s not many people that’s put 38 years of their life into their cities, and he’s done that in many, many ways. We’re very proud that this day has come to fruition, because Paul is very deserving of it.”

Janoush was overwhelmed with emotion when talking about having his name on the police station.

“It’s quite an honor,” said Janoush. “It’s a shock. I started to figure it out a little bit in Billy’s office, because he can’t lie worth a dang. It’s always been an honor to work with the police all of these years and be chairman of the police committee. I think we have one of the finest police departments in the state of Mississippi. What they do for us can’t be done by anybody else.”

Janoush was touched by seeing all of the people that came to the police stations to watch him receive his recognition.

“I was very, very startled,” said Janoush. “I was not expecting all of these people to be here. A lot of family came from out of town for it, and a lot of friends came a long way. I’m quite amazed and quite honored by it.”

Cleveland Alderman Gary Gainspoletti, during the ceremony, expressed his feelings about the police station baring Janoush’s name.

“Anybody who serves in this role is truly a public servant,” said Gainspoletti. “To think about someone who’s literally devoted more than half of his life to it is incredible. Paul, in his time on the board, has always been a friend to the police department. Today, this is about the service that he’s given to the city and how much of it was dedicated to the police department. I can’t think of a better person to be recognized today.”

Cleveland Police Chief Dudley Tribble let Janoush now how much his work is valued by the police.

“As far as the police department, thank you for all that you do for us and the city of Cleveland,” said Dudley to Janoush.
