Bayou Academy senior forward Addison Vargas announced she would continue her playing career on Nov. 1 as she signed to play soccer at Northwest Community College in Senatobia.

Vargas has been a key player for the Lady Colts over the last two years as she guided the team to two straight trips to the Class II State Soccer Playoffs. She scored 33 goals as a junior last year and played a key role in the Lady Colts going 14-3 in 2020. This year, she scored 44 goals as Bayou went 19-6. Vargas competed in the MAIS All-Star Girls Soccer game last month.

Vargas can’t wait to begin her college career.

“I’m really excited,” said Vargas. “My coach is really good, and I’m real excited to get to play at Northwest.”

Duffy said Vargas has the potential to succeed on the collegiate level.

“She’s the epitome of hard work, and she’s shown what it takes to get to the next level,” said Duffy. “We’re all extremely proud of her here. I think she’s going to have a great collegiate career. She’s shown what she’s capable of at this level, and I’m looking forward to seeing her playing on the next level.”

Along with her scoring, Vargas wasn’t afraid to pass the ball off to the open person. She recorded 11 assists her junior year and 21 assists this past season.

“She’s blossomed these last two years,” said Duffy. “These last couple of years, she’s done extremely well. She’s out here every single day doing what she can to get better. She scores goals and assists goals. She’s the all around type of player, and she’s a team player too which is probably the most important thing.”

For Vargas, the last two seasons at Bayou have been special to her.

“The last two years were my best, and I’ve had a really good coach in Coach Myron,” said Vargas. “The girls and every everybody supported me which was great.”
