CCHS Fundraiser

Funds donated to Le Bonheur

By Lyndsi Naron, The Bolivar Bullet

The National Honor Society students at Cleveland Central High School recently had their yearly fundraiser where they sold boxes of candy for a charity of their choice.

“The students designate an organization every year that they will support and this year the students chose Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee,” said Beverly Stanford, one of the sponsors of the National Honor Society Chapter at Cleveland Central. “We have supported St. Jude, Blair Batson Children’s Hospital, and Wounded Warrior Project in the past.”

Jonathan Marsden is the other sponsor and the chapter currently has 65 total members.

According to Stanford, 48 boxes were sold and the candy included; chocolate bars, sour patch gummies and worms, M&M’s, and fruit chews. The profit from each box was $42.

“After paying for the candy, we were able to make a financial donation of $2,000 to Le Bonheur,” said Stanford. “The donation will simply go to the support and care of the children at Le Bonheur at this time. The hospital was so gracious and appreciative of this donation.”

Methodisthealth.org says Le Bonheur is the only comprehensive pediatric hospital in our region, and every doctor employed is a pediatric specialist.

“Le Bonheur has been recognized among the nation’s ‘Best Children’s Hospitals’ by U.S. News & World Report for 13 consecutive years.”

According to lebonheur.org, Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital offers many services including, but not limited to: the Heart Institute, Neuroscience Institute, Fetal Center, Neonatology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, Nephrology, Urology, and Orthopedics.

Keldon Brown, the Vice President of the Cleveland Central High Chapter, shared how happy the members were to sell the boxes for their chosen charity.

“On behalf of our honor society, I would like to express how happy we are to contribute to a good cause,” said Brown. “In the future, we plan to continue making efforts to better our community.”
