Mound Bayou couple creates experiences
A husband-and-wife team out of Mound Bayou, Kirk and Kayla Melvin, are the owners and operators of 4K Bartending. The Melvins serve private events with a level of professionalism and energy that goes beyond mixing drinks, creating an atmosphere where guests feel welcome, relaxed, and well taken care of. “Our mission is to make every event fun and stress-free for our clients,” said Kayla. “We love interacting with people, and being able to create smiles and memories is what keeps us going.”
The Melvins began their business in 2022 after helping a friend bartend at her establishment. They quickly realized they worked well together as a team and discovered a natural talent for engaging guests while maintaining professionalism behind the bar. Their complementary skills—Kirk’s expertise in mixing and Kayla’s organizational and people skills—became the foundation of 4K Bartending, the business name.
“It all started as something fun for us,” said Kirk. “We were bartending for friends, and people kept asking us to come to their events. We realized we could turn this into a business that really made a difference at parties and celebrations.”

“At a starting price of $300, we take care of everything from start to finish,” said Kayla. “We bring all the drinks, mix the cocktails, clean the area afterward, and even offer special frozen drinks like margaritas and strawberry daiquiris.”
The Melvins are known for their signature drinks, which include the lemon drop and strawberry Hennessy. Guests appreciate not only the beverages, but also the energy and attention the couple brings to each gathering. “Serving people is something we both love,” said Kirk. “It’s not about the money—it’s about making the event enjoyable and creating a welcoming environment for everyone.”
Looking ahead, the Melvins hope to expand 4K Bartending into a small, homey actual bar where guests can relax, enjoy drinks, and feel the warmth of a community-oriented space. They envision a place that reflects the same personal touch and energy they bring to private events, giving people in the Delta a welcoming space that is currently rare in the area.
“We want our bar to feel like home,” said Kayla. “Somewhere people can come, enjoy themselves, and feel like they’re part of a family. That’s the ultimate goal for us in the next year or two.”
While bartending is not their full-time occupation, the couple treats it with the dedication and care of a primary business. Kayla also works as an entrepreneur in nails and is pursuing a book project, while Kirk continues to hone his mixing expertise while working two other jobs. Together, they turn their shared passion into an enjoyable experience for their clients.
